Gelli Plate Card

Hello crafty friends!
Today I have a card to show you that I made with
one of my gelli plate prints.
I cut the gelli print down and mounted it onto a piece
of handmade paper, then adhered it to a white card base.
I loved the colors and shapes that I got on this piece.
I didn't add a sentiment, but I may add something when
I decide to use this card.
I had some small scrap pieces left from the
print, so I cut them down and added them to
the inside of the card.
I really love how this card turned out
and had so much fun making the gelli print
that I used for it.
You never know what you'll get when you do
gelli printing, sometimes it's not so great
and other times you'll love it.
Either way, it's fun to play with the gelli plate.

Thanks for stopping by today, I hope I'll
see you again soon.
Until then;
use your imagination.

Gelli Printing

Hello and welcome to
Kristie Kreates!
Have you ever done gelli plate printing?
If you don't know what it is or how it's done,
here's a video that will give you some basic information
about it and techniques to use.
There are different sizes and brands of gelli plates
available on the market, but I made mine following
and it turned out great.
I love playing with my gelli plate,
here are some of the prints I made recently with mine.
This one has some remnants of  colors I used
that had dried onto the plate.
It's tough to see, but I used a stencil on this one,
I covered the painted area with a stencil,
put a paper over it to lift some of the paint,
then took the stencil off and pulled another print.
Just lifted a couple different colors on this one.
Depending how much you put onto the plate,
will determine what kind of coverage you get.
I love that this one has a lot of lines and "wrinkles" in it.
A couple more done with stencils.
For this one I put down paint, laid down some leaves,
made a print then lifted off the leaves and pulled another
print.
Sometimes you  don't get something all that great,
like this red and orange one, but I do like the gray, pink and blue
on the other half of the sheet.
Another one using a stencil.

I know these don't look like much, but they will go into
my background stash and I will eventually find a use for them.
I have already made some cards with some of my prints
and I'll be sharing those here on the blog soon.
So come again soon and see what I've done with some of
my gelli prints.

Thanks for spending time here and I'll see you again soon.
Until then:
give something new a try.

Viviva Watercolor Review

Hello blog friends!
Today I have something a little different for you.
I was contacted a little while ago by
with an offer to send me a set of their
colorsheets to try and review.
To be clear, they did give me these free of charge,
but they have not paid me for this review and
I will only give an honest review of the product.
When they arrived they were in a large envelope
in this packaging.
I opened it to find this pad of
colorsheets.  This is a perfect size for
carrying to paint on the go,
or in any setting.
Each color is clearly marked
with it's name and these sheets are very
highly pigmented.
The color that you see is not the color of the
paint, but once you wet the colorsheet, the
actual color appears.
There is a protective sheet between the
colorsheets to prevent wet colors from
mixing and sticking together.
I find this very helpful when
using multiple colors.
There are color swatches at the bottom of each
page of colorsheets for easy reference.
Now to get to the really fun part.
The painting!
I am, by no means, an artist. I love to
"play" with watercolors and do different
techniques with them.
But you will not find any fabulous pieces of
artwork done by me.
I'm a crafter who loves playing with watercolors,
and I have to say these are wonderful.
I started to check these out by choosing 4 colors.
I chose Chrome Yellow, Gold Ochre, Burnt Umber and
Burnt Sienna.
I had seen this video about testing out colors and
followed her lead and drew a series of wavy lines to
follow.  Then I set about painting.
I started at the ends with the strongest saturation of
paint, and using a pallet I added water a little at a time
to lighten the colors, painting a few waves with each
color, the switching to another.
I have to say, these paints are a joy to work with,
they are very saturated with pigment and go on very smoothly.
You need very little color to achieve a beautiful result.
Once I had the base layer of paint on the
watercolor paper, I let it dry completely.
I then drew circles on the painting and
painted them in with colors that contrasted with
the area they were drawn.  The colors covered
beautifully.
I then drew leaves and used
Light Green and Sap Green to paint the leaves.
Like I have said, I'm no artist, but I love how this turned out.
I love everything about these paints and am now
obsessed with playing with them and testing them out.
Below you'll find some more tests that I did with my
Viviva Colorsheets.
I stated out with full strength Persian Blue
on my pallet and with each consecutive wave
I added a little more water.
As you can see the color is beautiful and
lightens gradually.
This was done with Violet,
such a beautiful color.
I wanted to do a small piece for a
die cut for a card. I used just a swipe of the
Crimson and added water to it to gradually lighten.
You can see that what is left is still full of color.
Another test using 2 colors,
sorry, I'm not sure which colors I used,
I was having too much fun and forgot to take note.
I started at the bottom and added water
then once I was about 1/2 way up the page, I
started adding one of the purple colors.
I love the ombre look that I got.
For these and the ones below, I wanted to clean
up the paint that was on my pallet and made these
background pieces.  I simply sprayed the watercolor paper
with water and dropped in the colors and let them blend.
I also did a little flicking of color from my brush.

All in all, I don't have a bad thing to say about these
Viviva Colorsheets, they are highly pigmented with
beautiful colors, are easy to work with, blend like a dream and
are compact and easy to carry and store.
If you are at all interested in watercolor work,
either for painting lovely pieces or using them for cards
etc. check out
Their price point is very reasonable and you won't be
sorry you gave them a try.
Thank you to Viviva for introducing me to your
wonderful Colorsheets, I will be using them a lot
and loving them for a long time.

Thanks for stopping by today,
I hope you have been inspired and will come again soon.
Until then.
try something new!

Birthday Card For Jaryd

Hello, I hope you're having a good day!
My son recently had his birthday and I needed
a card for him.  I had been doing some gelli plate
prints and had used a piece of card stock to
roll the excess paint off my brayer.
I loved the look of this piece, so I used it to make
his card.
I happened to have a couple strips of
card stock that matched the colors nicely,
so I used those along the edges.
Then I stamped the happy birthday with
I love how his card turned out.
I wrote a personal message inside.
I think he liked the card too.

Thanks for stopping by today to see
what I've been up to, I hope you like what you
found here and will come again soon.
Until then:
use something unexpected.

Blended Stripes

Hello blog friends!
Welcome to my world!
Today I have a couple cards to show you,
more from my embossing frenzy.
For these cards I used the
Diagonal Stripes Embossing Folder
from Darice and embossed white card stock.
I then used a ink blending tool and a  combination of
Peacock Feathers, Salty Ocean and Blueprint Sketch
Distress Inks to add color.
I cut the embossed panel so I could make it into
a 2 for 1 set and adhered them to the white card bases.
I added strips of coordinating card stock along the edge to give
it a more finished look.
The believe, dream and inspire are from a stamp set I have
in my stash, but have no clue who they were made by.
The sentiment on this one is from the
Lovely stamp set from Cas-ual Fridays
I can't find a link for this though.
As I often do, I left the inside blank to
be able to add a sentiment of personal
message at a later date.

Thanks for stopping by today,
I appreciate you spending time with me.
I hope you will come again soon.
Until then:
Happy Crafting!

Abstract cards

Welcome to Kristie Kreates!
Today I have a bunch of cards to share with you.
I saw this video from Kristina Werner
and decided to give this technique a try.
She used a stamp that had a rectangle shape,
but I didn't have that stamp or one like it,
so I used craft foam and inked it up
Worked like a charm!
This was the first one I made and I adhered it to a white card base with
foam adhesive.
This one I adhered flat onto an "oatmeal" colored card base.
I decided to mat this one with some pink before adhering it to the card base.
Another one matted with pink.
And this one with a blue mat.
I love how these turned out, even though they are really not
like Kristina's at all.
It's all about inspiration rather than making it look the same.
I haven't put any sentiment on them, as I can do that when I
use them, or I may just leave them as they are.
Thanks for stopping by today,
come again soon.
Until then:
Be inspired!

Embossed Star Card

Hello crafty people!
Today's card is another one I made during my
embossing folder craze that I went through one evening.
I embossed a piece of white card stock with
I then inked it with Mustard Seed and Carved Pumpkin Distress inks,
I cut the panel into 2 pieces and adhered to a white card base.
I stamped the words onto the card with
from Studio Calico.
The inside is left blank to write my own message.

Thanks for coming by today,
I hope you are having a very crafty day and
will come again soon
Until then:
Do what makes you happy!

Happy Thoughts 2 for 1

Hi everyone!
Today I'm showing you a couple cards I made.
This is kind of a 2 for 1 deal.
I started by embossing white card stock with the
to color the panel.
I cut the panel into 2 pieces at an angle and adhered each piece
to a white card base.
I added a thin strip of black card stock and used
sentiment from the
Lovely Greetings stamp set from Cas-ual Fridays.
I'm sorry, I can't find a link to this stamp set.

Thanks for spending time with me today,
come again soon.
Until then:
See if you can make some 2 of 1 projects.

Happy

Hello blog fans!
I hope y'all are doing well and staying healthy.
Today I have a card to show you.
I started by embossing a panel of white card stock
with the Sunrays Embossing folder from Darice
I then used Mustard Seed and Carved Pumpkin Distress Inks
and an ink blending tool to color the panel
The "Happy" was stamped onto white card stock with a
combination of the same inks, then adhered with foam tape.
The entire panel was then adhered to a white card base.
The inside of the card was left blank and I will add
a sentiment when I'm ready to use the card.

Thanks for stopping by today, I hope
you'll come again soon.
Until then:
Be Happy!
