My Other Pages

To make it easier to read about our trip to Ireland, I have made a page that is just for that. There is a tab above for Ireland Trip 2014 or click on the Home tab to read my other posts. I have also created a new page for My Weight Loss Journey if you are interested in that, click on the tab above.

Book Purse

Hello creative friends!
Today I'm showing you a gift I made for a friend.
My friend, Danielle, loves reading and has an area in her
home that is her personal library.
Her favorite book is A Prayer for Owen Meany.
I decided to make her a purse from her favorite book.
I don't know if she will ever use it as a purse, but it would look
great in her library.
I carefully removed the pages of the book and they
can still be read, so I may put a new cover on them.
The actual book cover was just plain, so I decided to
use the dust cover.  I cut the dust cover to size and
used some strong glue to adhere it to the book cover.
I did the same with the back of the dust cover.
I kept the spine of the book as the bottom of
the purse with no dust cover on it.
I could have attached some type of feet to the spine,
but didn't think of it at the time.
This is what the purse will look like if she chooses
to use it as a purse.
For the inside I found some fabric that matched nicely
with the book and dust cover and lined the inside with it.
The sides are gusseted, so there is room to open
the purse and the sides easily fit back inside the purse
when it is closed.
Here is a look down into the purse when it is open.
I purchased the chain handle and the "loops" they are
running through from Temu along with the magnet that
I used to hold it closed.  It's hard to see, but I made a little
closure that is attached to the left side in this picture, it
goes across and holds the purse closed on the other side
with a magnet.
If you are interested in doing a project like this,
here is a link to the tutorial I basically followed.
There are others out there, but Nik the Booksmith is one
of my favorite You Tubers and I found it easy to follow.
I did make some changes, only because I needed to
with the supplies I had, but her tutorial is a good one.
On the other hand, if you are interested in purchasing
a book purse, I have a friend that makes and sells them.
Check out
BeeZ Vintage Book Purses.
Kathleen does an amazing job with her craft and
they are far better than anything I could ever do.

Danielle absolute loved her book purse and she
showed it to everyone that came to the event we were
hosting when I gave it to her.
I enjoyed making it and I know she will enjoy having
it, whether she wears it or just displays it.

Thanks for stopping by today.
I hope you were inspired in some way and
will come again soon.
Until then,
think outside the box and try something new.
