My Pink Stamper Challenge

My Pink Stamper posted a challenge to make something that is a Father's Day project and the randomly drawn winner will win a Cricut Expressions. Below is my submission.

I saw this idea on a blog that I follow. Scrap Guy posted a couple Father's Day layouts this past week and one of them was my inspriation. I didn't have the Cricut cartridge that he used so I drew the tie and collar freehand and cut it out. The smaller ones I did cut out on my Expressions after realizing that I could easily create them with my SCAL2 program.
This layout is totally out of the ordinary for me, but I loved Bryan's so much that I had to scraplift the idea and change it up a little to make it my own layout. Now I need to find some nice pics of Dave with the kids to add and it will be complete.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my blog. I'd love it if you would leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Color inspiration challenge #2

Kristina Werner posted the 2nd Readers Choice Color Inspiration Challenge. This was the picture that I submitted. I took this picture in Kinsale, Ireland and there is a story that goes with it, but that's a different post all together. Dave titled this picture "A Vision in Blue" I call it "What Blue Wall?" Maybe I will post another time about this picture and why I call it that. But for now, here is the challenge.

Here is the card that I made for the challenge. I made the little flowers with a technique I learned recently. Very easy to do, here is a video you can check out for the technique. I did a variation of this one and used small scalloped circles all the same size and used a brad to hold them together. I used plain white copy paper and sprayed it with Purple Spray Ink from Inkadinkado.
The 'sun' was cut out on my Cricut Expressions and the writing was done with my Cri-Kits Gel Pens using my SCAL2 program.
Thanks for coming to view my blog, leave me a comment if you wish. I love to hear what y'all think.

eat me tags are done 5/24/10

I finished the 'eat me' tags for my almost niece tonight. I like how they turned out, I hope she does too. They really aren't like the ones that she showed me, so I'm hoping she likes them.

I used Glimmer Mist on white paper, then used my Cri-Kits Gel Pens with my Cricut Expressions to write 'eat me' in purple, then switched out the pen for a blade and cut them out. I then made a teal colored piece for the tag to go onto. The teal pieces are double sized and folded over, I glued the bamboo sticks in the center of the folded tags. Purple ribbon looped through the hole at the end completes the tags.

Thanks for stopping to have a look, leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

Shhhhhh..... It's a shower gift! 5/23/10

Recently my friend, Carol, became a Grandma! Some friends are having a shower for Chrissy and the new baby, Xavier, when they come to visit in June. I will be attending that shower.

I wanted to make something for them as a shower gift and decided that since I have been having so much fun with the new SCAL2 program that I got recently, I would create something. I decide to make a chipboard mini name album. After a bit of experimentation and test runs, I got it right. I am very happy with the outcome.

I cut it out of light weight chipboard, then cut each piece out of blue paper to cover the fronts of the pages, I used a subtle plaid paper for the letters and a matching creamy yellow for the backs of the pages. I bound it all using my handy dandy Bind it All.

This is what the book looks like when it is closed.
As you can see here, each page is a different letter of his name.
Here is a view of what it looks like with a page open. There will be plenty of space for pictures of Xavier and journalling on each page.
I hemmed and hawed over whether to put picture mats on the pages etc. and decided against it. I know Chrissy has done some scrapbooking, so I decided to just get her some supplies to go with it that she can use to finish off the book however she wants to.
I hope she likes it as much as I do.
I'm thinking of creating some more generic word books to put up for sale in my Etsy shop.
I'd be glad to hear what you think of this little book, so leave me a comment if you'd like. Thanks for stopping by.

Belli Challenge #91 and a Birthday Card

A new Belli challenge was posted last week and today I am posting the card I made for that challenge. This challenge was to create a card and use a hole punch on it. This first card is the one I created for the challenge, I used a hole punch, making 3 holes and then put brads in them. I also used a punch at the bottom of the strip that holds those brads. I used a scalloped EKSuccess punch to create a little bit of 'frill' on this card. I'm really enjoying these challenges.

This second card I made for my "#2 Son" for his birthday. Brian has been my sons best friend for years. They met in 3 yo nursery school and have been friends ever since, as his Mom and I have. His birthday was on the 19th, he turned 18, which means that Jaryd will be 18 pretty soon too. They grow up too fast.

This card I made using a technique I saw recently on a blog, unfortunatly I don't remember whose blog it was. What you do is find coordinating papers and cut them into triangles, then adhere them to a piece of paper so they meet in the middle. Then cut the excess off and you have a nice paper for the front of a card. You can also do this with larger pieces to create a unique page for a scrapbook. I put my Corner Chomper to use again to round the corners of the piece in the center of the card and to mimic the curve on two corners of the card. I hope Brian likes his card.

Thanks for checking out my blog and what is going on in my papercrafting world.

Color inspiration challenge

A few post ago, I posted a picture that I had entered into a color inspiration "contest" People entered pictures to Kristina Werner's Blog then the people that follow her blog were invited to vote on their favorite picture for her first readers' choice color challenge. The picture below was the one that had the most votes. Kristina took the colors from the picture and challenged us to make a card, layout or project using those colors.

Now I haven't been one to do challenges in the past, but a couple weeks ago, I decided that it would be a good for me to do some of the challenges I see on the blogs that I follow. I need to start thinking outside the box and stretch my creativity. Below is the card that I made for Kristina's challenge.

This card didn't start out this way. I started out with a totally different idea and kept changing it and changing it until I finally hit on a design that I really liked.
I cut the flower from an SVG file that I got from Penny Duncan Creations using my SCAL2 program and my Cricut Expressions, then I used foam tape to pop it up.
All the papers that I used were papers that I had in my stash. The "hi" are chip board letters from Heidi Swapp.
I used my brand new Corner Chomper to round the corners to mimic the round cut in the lower corner.
The hardest color for me to incorporate was the gray, but I finally used it as the center of the flower. I know it isn't much, but there aren't any rules saying how much you have to use, just that you have to use those colors. LOL! That little dot brings in the gray.
And guess whose picture had the 2nd most votes? MINE did, and Kristina posted that she will be doing challenges with the top 5 pictures. I'm so excited.

Menus and Place cards

My nephew is getting married in October and his fiance has asked me to help her with a few things in preparation for the wedding. One of the things is to make menus and place cards for her "Bridal Tea" which will be taking place in June. Tonight I finished up the place cards and hopefully will finish up the menus tomorrow.

The theme for the tea is Alice in Wonderland, so I thought it would be appropriate to make the menus with a picture of Alice on them. I faded the picture and printed the menu over the picture in purple. I then mounted the menu on teal card stock, then mounted that onto Gem Opal Coredinations.

The place cards have the same color scheme and each of the cards has a different picture of a character from Alice in Wonderland. There are not enough characters to have a different one for each guest, but I did find a different picture for each one.
I will also be making little tags that will be attached to pics to go into some of the different foods that will say 'eat me' on them. I haven't made those yet, that will come once the menus are done. I'm pleased with the way these turned out and I think the tables are going to look great.

Mother's Day Card

Saturday was our National Scrapbooking Day celebration crop at My Happy Place. 12 hours of scrapbooking, cardmaking, papercrafting, good food, prizes and fabulous company.

One of the things I knew I wanted to do was to make a card for my Mom for Mother's Day. I had seen this idea first on Going Buggy
( www.going-buggy.blogspot.com ) which is one of the blogs that I follow on a regular basis. Thanks Enfys for the wonderful idea.

I do love how this turned out, but next time I think I would be more mindful to match the flowers and the pot better. I think my Mom is going to love it.

More about whatelse I worked on next post.
Happy Mother's Day to all!

Etsy....... finally!

I have finally taken another plunge and posted some things in my Etsy store for sale. I have had the store for a few months, but hadn't made the time to actually put any items into the store.

I have been advised by others who have Etsy stores to put only a few things at a time into the store, so I have started with 6 items and will add more in a few days.

So if you are interested in seeing what I have for sale check out my shop here and let me know what you think.

Gee do I feel productive lately! Setting up a blog, putting things in my Etsy shop, making a ton of stuff for the business, all in one weekend. WOW! I'm on fire! LOL!

Creative Belli Blog Challenge #90

My friend Jessica ( http://www.thebugstampinmomma.blogspot.com/ ) was just invited to be on the Design Team for Creative Belli Blog. How cool is that?! ( www.bellichallenge.blogspot.com )

She posted about this and their most recent challenge on her blog. Now, I'm usually not one to participate in challenges, guess they are just too challenging for me. LOL! But I thought I would try this one.

The challenge was to get into your stash and use some 'old and forgotten' birthday papers or supplies to make a birthday card. Now, I don't have anything that is remotely birthday paper, but I did make a birthday card, so I hope that qualifies for the challenge. Either way, I had fun creating this card.

I also challenged myself to use only the base paper and this one other sheet of paper. I am pretty sure I got this paper when I was shopping at Crafts 2000 in Michigan with my friend Mary. It was quite a while ago, maybe 2 yrs or so. It is from Scrappy Cat and was on clearance for only $.10/sheet. The picture below shows one side, the other side is solid orange, guess I figured if I couldn't come up with something to use that patterned side for, I would use the orange. I finally found a way to use both.

Here is the card that I made for the challenge. I cut different sections from that paper and cut the Happy Birthday on my Cricut, using my new Sure Cuts A Lot 2 program that I won from http://www.cri-kits.com/ I am soooooo loving that program. Thanks Cri-Kits! They also have some awesome new gel pens to use in your Cricuts! Check them out!

I'm pleased with how my first attempt at a Belli Blog Challenge turned out.

Thanks for stopping by. Leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

Cards

This 1st card is one I made last night while I was at My Happy Place. The scrapbooking wasn't coming together for me, so I decided to make some cards. I will post the others at another time, as I didn't have any stamps with me and they need to have sentiments stamped on them. I can't tell you what kinds of supplies I used as they were just things from my stash.

This 2nd card I made a few weeks ago. I had gone off my spending diet and bought a new punch and had to try it out. I don't know the name of the punch, but it is from EK Success. Again the papers are from my stash.

I have been doing more and more card making lately. I find it quite relaxing late in the evening or early in the morning, as the case may be. Funny thing is that I never thought I would get into card making, but here I am creating and having fun doing it. I guess that is the key, I'm creating something and I do love to create!
