Bulb Ornaments

Hello bloggy friends!

One day I was in Michael's and the blank

ornaments were on sale 70% off and I saw these and

had to buy some of them.

They remind me of my childhood and those big 

lights we used to have on our tree.

Of course, they were clear when I bought them.

And I forgot to take a picture before I glittered them.

Glittering them was simple.

I used cheap pump style hair spray,

poured it into the ornament.

Then poured it out of the ornament, back

into the bottle.

I turned the ornament upside down onto a paper towel

for about 15 - 20 seconds,

then poured glitter into it.

I put my thumb over the hole and shook it up.

Then I poured the extra glitter out onto a piece of paper

and funneled it back into the container.

I set them aside to let them dry

and the next day put the tops back on.

And here they are, all ready to hang on the tree,

or to give as gifts.

I may add names or the year to some of them.

I think they are just so darn cute, very nostalgic.

I did try to get some more, as I thought they would

make great stocking stuffers for my family,

siblings, nieces, nephews and greats,

but they don't have anymore of them 

at Michael's.

Wine Glass Candle Holder Process

Hello craft lovers!

Remember these candle holders that I made 

for Christmas?

Today I'm going to give you a quick tutorial on how

they are made..

I started out with a plain wine glass.

I get them at the Dollar Tree.

I created a pattern with my 

Silhouette Studio Designer Edition software.

This picture shows how it looks on my computer,

I have color coded all the pieces to the colors of glitter

I will be using. I cut all the pattern pieces from vinyl.

Once the pieces are all cut, they are layered onto the

wine glass. You need to figure out which colors you will be doing 

last and layer up from there.

On the penguin, the last color I was applying was the orange, 

so those pattern piece went on first.

The feet were first, then the white belly.

We then used Mod Podge to cover the glass,

then poured on the black glitter.

We waited until the first coat was good and dry,

then applied a 2nd coat.
Different colors may require more applications, 

use your judgement and do what you like best.

Once the black was done, we removed the pattern

piece where the white would go and added that.

And so on until we were finished.

The trickiest part was the eyes.

We had to remove the large white circle and

before putting on the white glitter, we laid down

a smaller circle for the black of the eye.

The little white dot in the eye was added last with

a little bit of Liquid Pearls.

Once all the glitter was applied and had all dried,

we sprayed them with a glossy spray sealer

If the Mod Podge you have is a glossy one,

you can use that to finish them.

DO NOT use a matte Mod Podge!

(don't ask me how I know)

This final seal will prevent the glitter from flaking off

your project.

This is the pattern I used for my Grinch candle holder.

We used the same process as with the penguin.

When we removed the different pieces, 

we used a fine paint brush to apply the Mod Podge

since the areas were so small, 

but it was worth the effort.

I have seen some very cute ideas for Valentines Day

using this same process and supplies and I'm thinking of

making a couple for that holiday also.

If I do, I'll post them for y'all to see.

Our Art Swaps ATC Swap

Our Art Swaps, a fun group that I'm a member of,

is having an ATC swap this month.

Our theme is Christmas.

We were each assigned 2 people to send ATCs to,

I made 3 so I could send one to the gal who organized the swap.

I used the images

"Christmas Ball with Ribbon"  (#12702) from

Eureka! Stamps and

Snowflakes, Happy Holiday sentiment and "bakers twine" are from

"Holiday Delivery" stamp set from

Simon Says Stamp

For each ATC, I stamped the Christmas Ball with Ribbon

image onto white card stock, the center part,

with the ribbon and pine bough

was colored with water color crayons. 

The "metal" braid was colored with Creative Memories pens.

 

For this first one, I covered the top and bottom areas of the ball with sticky powder and added micro beads.  The picture doesn't show the true color, but they are a darker green than they look in the picture.

For the snowflakes were heat embossed with white powder.

The Christmas Balls were fussy cut

 and adhered to each card with ATG tape.

This card was colored the same, but the top and bottom were covered with

liquid glue and glitter.

The Holiday Wishes was embossed with white powder.

This 3rd card was covered with glitter also, but a different color.

The lines along the edges are a "bakers twine" stamp from the

Holiday Delivery Stamp Set.

I'm really loving this set, so many fun things that can be done with it!

 

I really enjoyed making these ATCs,

it's been quite a while since I had done any

 and I'm so glad we decided to do this for our swap this month.
