2021 Christmas Ornaments

Hello blog fans!
I hope you are having a wonderful holiday season.
A few years ago I started a new tradition in our family.
Whoever comes to Christmas dinner receives
a home made ornament from me.
My son and daughter in law have been hosting
Christmas dinner the last couple years,
but I've continued the tradition.
This year, these are the ornaments I made.
They started out like this.
Several years ago I was out shopping at one
of the craft stores and found packages of
metal tags dirt cheap on clearance.  Of course I couldn't pass up
that deal, so I bought a couple packages.  Had no idea
what I might do with them, but knew I'd come up with something.
This year I came up with something.
I used alcohol inks to color the metal tags,
then used stamps and Alcohol Lift Ink to
lift the ink from the tag.
It's a very simple process that turns out looking great.
I did find that some colors lifted easier than others.
Surprisingly I found some of the lighter colors were
harder to lift than the darker ones.
It's all a matter of trial and error.
I also found that some stamps did not work as well as
others and it seems rubber stamps worked better than
the clear acrylic/polymer stamps did.
The amount of ink used also made a difference.
If I did more than one coat to make the color
appear darker, it was harder to get the ink to lift off.
But with persistence and repeated stamping, most of
them did work.
Although there were a few that just wouldn't lift.
I'm not sure why that was.
One of the great things about using the alcohol ink
on metal, is that if you don't like the color, the way it stamps
or if the ink won't lift, all you need to do is use some
rubbing alcohol and remove the ink and start again.
I stamped the year on the back of each ornament.
This is one case where the polymer stamps worked
well.  It may be because it was such a solid
image, but I can't say for sure.
I'm very happy with how this year's ornaments
turned out.

Thanks for stopping in for a visit,
come again soon.
Until then,
have a happy and healthy
new year.
Let's all make 2022 a
wonderful and creative year!

Snowglobe Ornaments

Hello crafters!
Today I'm showing you some ornaments that I made
for my family for 2020
They are simple to make as long as you have a
laminator.
I can't find the video on how to make them, so
I'll give you a quick written tutorial.
Trace a circle on the outside of a laminating pouch.
On the inside of the pouch use white paint to make a
snow hill and flick paint on for snowflakes.
Print picture of your choice and cut out around the
person you want to feature,
Once the paint is dry, lay the picture into the
pouch and put it through the laminator.
Once it's laminated, cut out the circle.
With card stock, cut out two bases,
glue the laminated piece between the two base
pieces.  Punch a hole in the top and add ribbon or string.
Now you've got a cute ornament.
I hope that makes sense, let me know if you have
any questions and I'll try to give you some help.
This one was for Sara.
Picture of her with Marie when she was out in her
first snow.
Made this one for Dave, my hubby, wearing the hat and scarf
I made her for her birthday.
This one was for Kelsie with her favorite
little human in the world.
Jaryd's with his Princess.
And for Kelsie's boyfriend, Brad, I made
this one with our little Molly.
Molly is afraid of anyone she doesn't know
and she finally warmed up enough to Brad that
he could hold her.

Thanks for stopping in today.
I hope you will give these ornaments a try,
they make a nice little keepsake.
Come again soon,
until then
create on!

Christmas Ornaments

Hello everyone!
I hope you've had a wonderful holiday season.
I know it's after Christmas, but I couldn't post
these before since they were made as gifts and I know
some of the recipients check out my blog now and then.
I have made it a tradition in the last few years to make an
ornament for each person that is at Christmas dinner with us.
This year is a little different, as there weren't many gathered
to celebrate on Christmas or any other time this season.
But I wanted to make ornaments anyway.
I happened to have some patterned felt and thought it would
work well for ornaments.
I found a tree and a star online that was easy to replicate
and made a pattern from them.
I then cut them out, hand stitched them and
stuffed them.
I think they turned out really pretty.
They are easy, pretty and didn't cost me
anything to make, and this year, that is a
real plus.
Once they were sewn and stuffed,
I added some pearl embellishments or
little "dew drops" that I had in my stash.
Here are the stars.
I think they are just as cute as the trees.
I used embroidery floss to make a loop on top to hang
from the tree.
I had my husband choose the one he wanted for our tree.
This is the one he chose.

Thanks for stopping by today,
I'll be posting more projects that I made as
Christmas gifts soon, so
come again and see what I was up to this
Christmas season.
Until then,
think of something new to try in 2021.

Ornaments

Hello crafty people!
Today I have some ornaments to show you.
I made these for my family this
Christmas. Each "family unit" received one.
We also had a ornament exchange with
our scrapbooking/crafting group and
I decided that I would give one of these
for that.
When I had to clean out my Aunt Marilyn's
apartment, when she went into a nursing home,
I found an old dresser scarf that I'm pretty sure
her Mom crocheted.
It had some torn spots, but I didn't want to
get rid of it, so I brought it home with me.
I took the pieces apart and made these ornaments
with the crocheted circles.
Everything else came from my stash in my
craft room, so every ornament is different.
I used chip board coasters for the base,
some were covered with

These darker ones were covered with
I made the flower on this one with a
scrap of fabric and colored it with
some of the Nuvo paste.
This flowers and the other ones this
style, I made using Washi tape.

Some of them have buttons from
my button box, like this gold flower button.
Some have charms and this one
has some actual wool which I
brought back from one of our trips to the
UK. I found it along a fence that was
around a pasture for the sheep.

I absolutely LOVE how these turned out
and my family loved them too.
I still have plenty of the crochet circles left,
so I'm sure I'll be coming up with another way
to use them.
They make a wonderful memory of some
family history for me.

Thanks for stopping in today,
I hope you'll come again soon.
Until then,
think about using something
out of the ordinary to make something
special.

Pikachu and Unicorn

Hi All!
Did you make any Christmas ornaments for
2018?
I did and here are couple of them.

Here's the Pikachu I made for my great nephew
Anthony. I found a picture of Pikachu and went from
there, creating it in my
 Silhouette Studio Designer Edition
and cut the face pieces from vinyl.
The ears were done freehand with glitter craft foam.
For the ornament itself, I used a clear plastic ornament.
First I poured liquid hair spray into the ornament,
then drained it out.  I used gold glitter and poured it into
the ornament, then poured the excess out.
This process works great for me.

I made this unicorn for my great niece and Godchild,
Andrea.  I followed the same process for glittering the
ornament, found some eyelashes on the internet and
traced them in my Silhouette program and cut them from vinyl.
The horn and ears were drawn freehand and cut from glitter craft
foam.  I found the little flowers in my stash and put them on
with super glue, then added gold gems to the centers.
I also added the year to the back with vinyl.
The kids both loved their ornaments.

I started a tradition of making ornaments for those
we have Christmas dinner with.
Unfortunately, I didn't remember to take pictures
of them. Each ornament had the date on one side and
the other was something that was important to that person
in 2018.  I also use a color that corresponded in some way
to that person or their "theme"
Sure wish I would have remembered to take pictures.

Thanks for popping in today.
If you made ornaments for Christmas
that everyone loved them as much as these were loved.

Bulb Ornaments

Hello bloggy friends!
One day I was in Michael's and the blank
ornaments were on sale 70% off and I saw these and
had to buy some of them.
They remind me of my childhood and those big
lights we used to have on our tree.
Of course, they were clear when I bought them.
And I forgot to take a picture before I glittered them.
Glittering them was simple.
I used cheap pump style hair spray,
poured it into the ornament.
Then poured it out of the ornament, back
into the bottle.
I turned the ornament upside down onto a paper towel
for about 15 - 20 seconds,
then poured glitter into it.
I put my thumb over the hole and shook it up.
Then I poured the extra glitter out onto a piece of paper
and funneled it back into the container.
I set them aside to let them dry
and the next day put the tops back on.
And here they are, all ready to hang on the tree,
or to give as gifts.
I may add names or the year to some of them.
I think they are just so darn cute, very nostalgic.
I did try to get some more, as I thought they would
make great stocking stuffers for my family,
siblings, nieces, nephews and greats,
but they don't have anymore of them
at Michael's.
Maybe next year!

Thanks for stopping by today.
Did you make any Christmas ornaments
this year?
Let me know in the comments what kind
you made and if you kept them or gave
them as gifts.

See you next time, until then
make something fun!
