Hello!

I hope you had a lovely Christmas.

Now that Christmas has passed, I'm free to share

some gifts that I made.

Well, this one I helped make.

My daughter wanted to make a beer mug and a

wine glass for her friends with specific messages

on them.

So, of course, Mom offered to help.

We chose a font that she liked and cut vinyl stencils with

my Silhouette.  Once it was cut, we removed all the letters.

We then covered the stencil with transfer tape.

Removed the vinyl from it's backing sheet and

stuck it to the glass.

This one was a bit harder since it was on a 

wine glass that was curved.

The other one went on much easier since it

was on a mug that was straight up and down.

The transfer tape was then removed and we

had the stencils ready to go.

We used Armour Etch 

to etch the glass.

You can purchase this in most craft stores.

It really is an easy process,

just spread the cream over the stencil and let it

sit for a while.

Check the instructions for the length of time

you should leave the etching cream on the

surface.

We left ours on for 10-15 minutes.

You can see you don't have to be neat about it, just 

dab it on and leave it.

But do be careful, this is a strong chemical mixture

which can cause irritation to the skin and burning.

Be Careful!

Then just simply run it under water and clean the 

etching cream off the project.

Peel the vinyl off  and you have an etched

surface.

Here is how the beer mug turned out.

And the wine glass.

I'm sorry for the poor pictures.

It is very difficult to get a good picture

of the etching.

I'm sure her friends will like these,

especially since she took the time to make

them especially for them.

Cheer Coach

This afternoon I got a text from a friend asking

if she could possibly use
My Happy Place,

our crafting studio, for about an hour tonight.

It turned out that someone she works with 

needed some gifts for TOMORROW!

She gave my friend the vinyl and what she

thought was white vinyl, was in reality

transfer tape.

We did the wine glass using the Cricut.

This is how the wine glass turned out.

Not too bad, I'd say, considering the fact that 

we can't weld the letters and they had to be put on

individually.

We weren't crazy about the lower case 's' in the font we

had available, so I had to do a little 'surgery' on it,

can't even tell can you?

I should have just brought her to my home right away,

we could have gotten this done quicker and nicer

if we had used my Silhouette Cameo.

When I realized what had to be done for the other 2 

coffee cups, I realized that we needed the Silhouette.

These didn't turn out exactly like the one in the picture she sent,

but close enough.

I created the CHEER COACH circle in my 

Silhouette Studio Designer Edition software

and cut them out in a flash.

It took us about 1 3/4 hrs to do that wine glass,

took about 30-45 minutes to create the file, cut and 

apply the vinyl on these 2 cups.

Oh I do love that machine!

We were pretty happy with the way they 

turned out, I hope her friend is too.

Wine Glass Candle Holder Process

Hello craft lovers!

Remember these candle holders that I made 

for Christmas?

Today I'm going to give you a quick tutorial on how

they are made..

I started out with a plain wine glass.

I get them at the Dollar Tree.

I created a pattern with my 

Silhouette Studio Designer Edition software.

This picture shows how it looks on my computer,

I have color coded all the pieces to the colors of glitter

I will be using. I cut all the pattern pieces from vinyl.

Once the pieces are all cut, they are layered onto the

wine glass. You need to figure out which colors you will be doing 

last and layer up from there.

On the penguin, the last color I was applying was the orange, 

so those pattern piece went on first.

The feet were first, then the white belly.

We then used Mod Podge to cover the glass,

then poured on the black glitter.

We waited until the first coat was good and dry,

then applied a 2nd coat.
Different colors may require more applications, 

use your judgement and do what you like best.

Once the black was done, we removed the pattern

piece where the white would go and added that.

And so on until we were finished.

The trickiest part was the eyes.

We had to remove the large white circle and

before putting on the white glitter, we laid down

a smaller circle for the black of the eye.

The little white dot in the eye was added last with

a little bit of Liquid Pearls.

Once all the glitter was applied and had all dried,

we sprayed them with a glossy spray sealer

If the Mod Podge you have is a glossy one,

you can use that to finish them.

DO NOT use a matte Mod Podge!

(don't ask me how I know)

This final seal will prevent the glitter from flaking off

your project.

This is the pattern I used for my Grinch candle holder.

We used the same process as with the penguin.

When we removed the different pieces, 

we used a fine paint brush to apply the Mod Podge

since the areas were so small, 

but it was worth the effort.

I have seen some very cute ideas for Valentines Day

using this same process and supplies and I'm thinking of

making a couple for that holiday also.
