Creating with Marie

Hello crafters!
Of course I'm a big supporter of arts and crafts
for children.  This little one is my granddaughter, Marie
and at this writing she is 2 yrs and 4 months old,
but she is already very crafty.
Last week I was lucky enough to have her
to myself for the whole day.
I wanted to do a project with her,
so I cut an egg carton in half and pulled out
the paints.
She was happy to be able to paint and do crafts
with G-Ma.
I covered her tray and a plate with plastic wrap,
this sure helps with the clean up.
She got to choose the colors and chose
a light and dark blue and black.
Then she got to work making her
caterpillar.
She took it very seriously and wanted
to do a nice job, which of course she did
and got high praise from G-Ma.
Spreading the paint over the entire plate
was also very nicely done.
A little bit of paint on the face never hurt either.
After her nap, she picked some eyes from my stash and
we glued them on and drew a smile with a crayon together.
We talked about the fact that a caterpillar makes it's own
house, called a chrysalis and grows into a beautiful
butterfly.
She was very excited to show Mommy and Daddy
what we made together.
Maybe next time we'll make some butterflies.

Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you'll come again
soon.  Until then,
craft with a child.

Journal and Note Pad

Welcome!
I'm glad you've stopped by today.
I have a hand made journal and note pad to show you today.
Our scrapbooking and crafting group at
My Happy Place usually have a
Christmas Crop every year.
This year, again we had to put it off, due to Covid.
But finally on March 5th a group of us got together
to have our Christmas Crop.
I decided to make my gifts for the exchange.
I love how these turned out!
I made them myself from the cover, to printing the pages
on different colors and weights of paper, to hand sewing the
signatures into the journal.
I really enjoyed the entire process.
I made the entire note pad also, including
cutting the paper and gluing it into a tear off
note pad.
Here you can see that I have different colors of paper
for the pages.
If you look closely you can see the hand
stitching that holds each signature into the
book.

I put the notepad on a chipboard
backing, so it could slide in under the
belly band.
This way the pad can be removed and a new one
put in, when this one is gone.
I loved making these gifts for the gift exchange and
hope the person that received it will enjoy using them.

I also made some Salted Caramel Sauce to go along with
these, but that's for another post some time.

I hope you have enjoyed this post and will come again soon.
If you are interested in learning more about making
journals of different kinds, my favorite videos are
from Nik the Booksmith on YouTube.
Check her out, she is very knowledgeable and
does some great videos.
Until I see you again,
make a gift for someone!

Easter Cards

Hello and happy spring!
With spring comes Easter
Easter isn't for another month, but if you're making
cards, now is the time to give them a little thought.
Here are a couple Easter cards that I'd like to share
with you.
I made this card for my sweet great niece and
Goddaughter.  The egg was cut from a piece of
paper that I colored with my Granddaughter, Marie.
We used food coloring and shaving cream, swirled it
a bit then laid the card stock on the shaving cream.
Once you wipe off the shaving cream you have a
lovely, marbled look.
We had a lot of fun doing this.
The bunny was hand drawn and cut from another piece
of the hand colored paper.
Here's a closer picture of my sweet little
bunny.
This bunny and eggs were also made from the
same type of paper as the card above.
I printed the sentiment inside with my
ink jet printer before adding the front panel.
This card was made for my great nephew.
I love to try to make him laugh with
my cards.

Thanks for stopping in today for a visit,
I hope you are having beautiful spring weather
where ever you are.
Come again soon,
until then,
get started on those Easter cards.

Tags

Hello crafters!
A couple weeks ago, I wanted to do something
a little different and thought I'd try some
tags.  I just pulled out a tag and started playing around
with what I had close by.
I tore a page from an old book and stuck some of
that down then covered it with some vellum.
Then I pulled out some glitter paste and colored it with
some Distress Ink and applied it here and there over a
stencil that was close by.
I liked how it was going and found the stamped flowers
in my stash of scraps and stuff, I fussy cut it and added that.
I finished it off with the little "discover" tag and some
stick on bling.
I like how this turned out, I'm not sure if I'll use it on a gift
or if I might add it to a card base.
Then I went in a totally different direction.
I pulled out a piece from my backgrounds stash
and adhered them to the tag in opposite corners and trimmed them
out.  I then added some foil tape and sequins.
It needed something more and I added the little beads in the center
of the sequins.  Now just a little bit more and I'd be done.
I stuck some foil tape to a piece of card stock and punched out the
little hearts.  They added just the right touch and my tag was finished.
This was a good exercise in creativity for me.
It made me think out side the box and come up with
something totally different than my usual style.
I definitely enjoyed making these tags and love
how they turned out.

I'm glad you stopped to spend a little time with me
today and hope you'll come again soon.
Until then,
think outside the box, you might be surprised what
you come up with.

Pop Out Birthday Card

Hello crafters!
Today I'm showing you a card I made recently.
I had seen this video from Jennifer McGuire
making a pop up card and thought I'd give it a try.
The card folds flat to fit into an envelope.
When it's taken out of the envelope it pops out
giving great dimension to the card.
I made the background with a stencil, VersaMark ink
and silver embossing powder.
I stamped and cut the stars and adhered them to
a piece of plain white card stock, the fussy cut around
the entire grouping.
I adhered the star arrangement onto the
front of the pop out piece.
I love how it turned out.
I stamped this greeting and colored it on plain white
card stock and cut it out with a die.

Thanks for stopping in today,
I hope you'll come again soon.
Until then,
try something new.
(maybe this kind of card)

2-22-22 is Taco Twos-day

I wrote this post out and never put it up on the blog.
I know it's really late, but wanted to share it anyway.

Hello everyone!
Today is 2-22-22 and it's
Taco Twos-day at our house.
My daughter, Kelsie, has been waiting for this day
for years!  It's her birthday and she is so excited that
it's 2-22-22.
We have our family dinner every Tuesday and today,
we are having tacos, which she loves and we are
celebrating her.  She is 32 years old today and this
year is special, because she is getting married.
Today I'm just showing you my beautiful daughter
that I created with the help of my hubby.
Here are some pictures of her through the years.

Small Journal with Leather

Hello everyone!
I hope you're having a crafty day.
Today I'm sharing a little journal I made
with y'all.
This little gem measures 3.5"x5.5"
and I'm just loving it.
I have some pieces of leather in my stash and
thought I'd give embossing them a try.
I ran the leather through my Cuttlebug
in an embossing folder and it worked
beautifully.  I will be doing more of this
for future projects.  I love this technique.
All the signatures are hand sewn and
then glued into the cover, which is also
hand made.
For the pages, I have a file that I created
that prints lines on paper, I used different
colors of paper, printed them and cut them
to the size I needed.
The leather piece was glued to the front
of the journal with
Here is the back of the journal.
This coloring is actually closest to the
real color of the paper I used.
I'm very pleased with how this journal
turned out.  Now my only problem is,
who will I gift it to?

Thanks for stopping by today,
I hope you have been inspired in some way.
Come again soon,
until then,
try a new technique.

Quinn the Queen Bee

Hello All!
Do you crochet?
I love crocheting and received this book as a gift.
I've made 2 other animals from this book and
this is number 3.
This is Quinn the Queen Bee.
I gave it to Marie when it was time for her nap,
and she hugged it right away.
When she was ready to go home, she had to
take it with her.
We've been surprised at how big these
animals are, this bee is at least 12" tall.
I'm thinking I might try a lighter yarn and
a smaller hook to see how they turn out.
I'll post when I do that, but
for now I'm not going to crochet for a bit
this old lady is having a problem with
the arthritis from so much crocheting.

Thanks for stopping by today,
I appreciate your time and hope
you are inspired in some way.
Come again soon,
until then,
enjoy creating something.
